This course will provide you with practical skills and knowledge to have a safe conversation about mental health in your workplace or community. Places are limited -Join us to learn how to help a friend, work colleague, partner or family member experiencing mental health issues .
Mental Health First Aid is an evidence based early intervention program that has been proven to increase knowledge of mental illnesses and their treatments, knowledge of appropriate first aid strategies, and confidence in providing first aid to individuals experiencing a worsening mental health issue of in a mental health crisis. Studies have also shown improved mental health in those who attend the training, decreases in stigmatizing attitudes and increases in the amount and type of support provided to others.
MHFA Course covers developing mental health problems such as:
Depression
Anxiety problems
Psychosis
Substance use problems
Mental health crisis situations covered are:
Suicidal thoughts and behaviors
Non-suicidal self-injury (sometimes called deliberate self-harm)
Panic attacks
Traumatic events
Severe effects of drug or alcohol use
Severe psychotic states
Aggressive behaviors
